The Beyond Borders series at Theatre 1308 features musicians and ensembles reaching across musical styles, traditions and borders to create new sounds and rhythms. From fusing Indian classical music with jazz, to exploring common elements in klezmer and Arabic music, the series offers new discoveries that will delight, surprise and move audiences.

AVATAAR, led by multiple Juno-nominated saxophonist/flutist and composer Sundar Viswanathan, is a dynamic World-jazz ensemble that seamlessly melds the music of India, Brazil, and modern jazz with atmospheric landscapes and world grooves. Cleverly layered and cinematic in scope, the music drives and swirls through a vast sonic palette.

About Frank Rackow

Frank Rackow is a Calgary-based musician and educator. He has recorded and performed across Canada with jazz, folk, klezmer and Middle Eastern ensembles. He teaches saxophone and clarinet and also directs two community ensembles: Vocal Latitudes, a mixed-voice community choir, and the Jewish Community Centre of Calgary klezmer ensemble.
